If you’ve found yourself Googling “how to leave teaching”, chances are you’re feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or completely disconnected from a job that once brought you purpose. Maybe you’ve said things like:
As a former teacher turned coach, I’ve been there – and I want you to know: there is life after teaching. And it can be so much better than you imagine.
For many teachers, guilt is the first roadblock. You care deeply. You’ve poured your heart into your students, your subject, and your school. But staying in a career out of guilt isn’t noble — it’s unsustainable.
Your wellbeing matters. And wanting a life that works for you doesn’t make you selfish — it makes you human.
Clarity is powerful. Before you start planning a new career, take a moment to reflect on what’s no longer working. Is it the workload? The constant pressure? A lack of creativity or autonomy?
Then flip the script:
✨ What do you want more of?
✨ What are your strengths outside the classroom?
✨ What parts of your job actually energise you?
This is exactly what I explore in my coaching and digital course — because knowing what you want instead is often the hardest part.
The good news? Teachers are incredibly employable outside of education. Your skills are so transferable. Think:
And that’s just the beginning. The key is understanding how to translate your experience into language that hiring managers outside of education will understand. That’s where support really helps.
You don’t need to have it all figured out. But the longer you sit in indecision, the more stuck you’ll feel.
✅ Update your CV.
✅ Explore LinkedIn.
✅ Have one conversation with someone outside of teaching.
✅ Start journaling about what you want.
Tiny steps build momentum. You don’t need to do this alone.
I work with teachers who feel exactly like you do — unsure, stuck, and scared to leave behind the identity of “teacher.” Through coaching, I help you rebuild your confidence, discover your unique strengths, and carve out a new path that fits your life.
💡 If you’re looking for structure and clarity, my self-paced course Lessons in Change: A Teacher’s Guide to Changing Career is a great place to start. It’s designed by a teacher, for teachers, and guides you step-by-step through the process of career change with reflection prompts, practical tools, and support along the way.
Leaving teaching isn’t a sign of failure — it’s a sign you’re ready for something more aligned. You’re allowed to choose a life that lights you up.
And if you’re ready to take the first step, I’d love to walk alongside you.
